QuestionI know you probably get asked this a lot and most of them time I have asked this question to people I get the same answer. However, I figured I would ask and see if I can get a better answer here. I have a 3.5 year old female German Shepherd purebred. She sheds ALOT! I am starting to feed her supplements and brushing her daily with different types of brushes that say they get undercoat ect. I know I can't stop the shedding entirely, but, what can I do to reduce it to a minimum? What is most bothersome is not the cleaning but the residual hair she leaves on my wife and I when she rubs up against us. The hair on the pants is unbelievable sometimes!!! Thanks!
AnswerHi Steven, GSD's shed a major amount twice a year, spring & fall. Spring to get rid of the winter coat & bring in the summer coat, and fall to get rid of the summer coat & bring in the winter coat. The hair you are seeing when she rubs against you is hair released due to stress & excitement. Some people try vaccuming the dog with the hand attachment on a vaccum. Otherwise, brushing is your only answer. GSD's shed, unfortunately it is a fact of life. Good Luck.
