Question
I bought a german sheperd pup an the breeder told me that it had its 2nd shots and needed one more. When I took the pup to my vet, he asked me when was the 2nd shot given? It turns out that the puppy was dewormed twice, and no shots were given! The puppy is 8 weeks old! Is it a problem if she didn;t have the shots earlier as she was suppose to? She is not sick, she very playful and alert and is a joy.

Thanks ,  Chino

Answer
Hi, no it is not a problem if the shots were not given earlier as long as the mother was immunizied as the puppy is normally covered by the mother's immunization for approx. 6 weeks after nursing.  That gives a good lap over time for shots to be started to keep the immunity up.  Just make sure you get the series of 3 shots, and then to play it safe, when the puppy is 4 months old and you get the rabies shot, go ahead and get a booster of the other vaccinations.  It won't hurt the puppy and you'll be playing it safe as far as plenty of immunity.   Hope this helps,
