17 year old mini doxie does not want to be held

Question
I have a 17 year old mini doxie.
She has been basicaly very healthy.
She did have a back injury 9 years ago. It was a ruptured dic and she could not move her hind parts for over a month.
She has come along way from that time.
Recently on the advice of the vet we had her teeth cleaned
and 11 pulled.  she seems to enjoy eating so much more.
The only thing i have noticed lately is she does not want to be held.  In the past i could not sit down without her
coming to me and wanting me to hold her for however long i
was sitting!.  she still follows me around from room to room.  Should i be concerned about this?

thanks

Answer
First let me say wow - 17!  That is great.  I have had some that old and we have one now that is 18 years old and every day is a bonus day.  I am really amazed that her teeth were cleaned - most vets would not do a dog that old.  She must be in really good health.  As to your question, yes I would be concerned.  Any significant change in behavior is a reason for concern.  It could be medically related.  Does her back seem to be tender or does she seem to walk slower and look to be uncomfortable?  That would be a sign of back issues.  But with such a drastic change, I would be worried too and I would seek advice from a vet.  I hope everything is okay!
