Question
Our 10 year old doxie has been diagnosed with Auto Inmune Disorder and is a taking an anti-cancer drug even though it was confirmed the lumps are not cancerous. She did not respond to Cortisone. She gets up to 4 at a time and some have ruptured, then she gets antibiotics. She seems normal in all body functions and content, although at times looks sad. In the past she's had multiple disc surgery. She has tolerated those well and recovered completely with a very slight deficit in a hind leg. She's a vibrant, happy female well known for her personality. I read here about the need for a better diet, she eats Science Diet Light,a healthy snack once a day and no vitamins anymore. What do you recommend for her diet? What brands? Would it make a difference? The vet at the State Univ School of Veterinary says it's incurable and we are devastated. What will the progression be like? Please comment.

Answer
I am so sorry to hear all this.  I would seek out an expert in this area for more information.  Be carful about changing her diet too fast.  There are a lot of good foods out there:  Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Authority, Solid Gold, etc.  I am not a vet so cannot give you any advice.  There are some products that she can be given such as probiotics, essential fatty acids, etc.  Look in your area for a holistic vet - they can usually help with the right supplements and dosage.  Some out of area may be willing to consult you over the phone.
