English Bulldog- Potty Training

Question
Our English Bulldog is now 18 weeks. He drinks a ton of water! I am now taking his water away at 6pm and taking him out at 8pm. He sleeps from 8:30pm until 4am when we take him out again. Every other night he will urinate in his bed. We have him in our room in a small corner which only fits his bed. We close him off from walking around. Why can't he hold it all night? He doesn't make any noise to let me know he needs to go out, he just urinates and then lays in it all night. I'm so tired of giving him baths at 4:30 in the morning. Some nights he's fine, and other nights he can't hold it. He drinks about 2-3 full bowls of water a day and isn't very active. Is that normal?

Answer
First of all, he's still very much a baby. If you could manage to take him out later at night perhaps he could make it through without wetting his bed. Around 10 would be good, later if possible.

His water consumption does seem like quite a lot for a puppy his age and activity level. If this continues, you might want to have his urine checked to make sure he's not diabetic.

Bottom line is, it's not that unusual for a puppy this age to wet his crate at night if he's going to bed at 8:30.  The reality is, he's going 7 1/2 - 8 hours without a mishap.
