Question
My little girl is 4 months old, and I haven't given much thought to breeding/spaying, but someone asked me if I'd let her breed with their male in 2 months when she goes into heat. I declined. But now I'm wondering, if I did decide to breed her, it would be when she was older (3 or 4 years old).

My question is, how bad is the bleeding/heat cycle for a female? If I was to wait 3 or 4 years, how much of a financial burden would it be? Would I need one of those doggie-diapers? not take her for walks? more food? would her temperament change? etc.

Would it be best to just spay her? My thing is, I love her and she's so sweet and gentle that I may want one of her daughters for later on in life. Can spay operations be reversed; like a human tube-tie?

Any and all help appreciated. This is my first female dog.

Answer
There is considerable bleeding involved in a heat cycle and it lasts for 3 weeks, twice a year.

My best suggestion is to get your female spayed and enjoy her. Forget about puppies as the Pitbull as a breed is on it's way to being legislated out of existence due to irresponsible ownership. Please don't contribute to this problem. Just love your dog.
