Question
Hello.   I recently had to board my 4 1/2 month old bulldog puppy for a few days due to some out of town business.  The people who took care of him certainly paid a lot of attention to him, but did not exactly follow our requests.  They fed him table food, gave him raw-hide, and washed his face with an abrasive ointment.  He was with them for about 4 days.  Since he has been home he has not been the same.  He is more lethargic, his is a little apprehensive and scared (he seemed to be quite fearless before), sometimes he will just lay in his bed and make strange gargling noises.  Before we left him, we could not walk from room to room without him being by our side.  Now he seems less interested in what we are doing. We are very concerned, but we are not sure if we are just being paranoid.  He is quite young, so we are hoping he just a little confused and will just snap out of it.  Any input would be appreciated.  Thank You, Jesse.

Answer
Just get him back into his normal routine with you and don't expect to much of him for a while. The table food probably really did a number on his little belly.

Because he was obviously stressed during this period, I would keep an eye on him just in case he develops an upper respiratory problem. If he gets a runny nose, or sounds congested, get him to the vet.  If the nose drainage is clear, that's normal. If it's cloudy or green, you need antibiotics.

He's a little guy. It's hard on them to abruptly deal with new people and surroundings and then get back home just as abruptly.
