Question
When we got our boxer pup at 8 weeks old, my husband and I were both retired and home all day.  We fed him 3 times a day until he was six months old.  With the economic downturn, we've both gone back to work.  Duke was getting a large meal at around 4:00 PM and a lighter meal at 8:30. Now, I'm working full time, so his main meal is at 6:00 PM.  If we feed him a second meal later, he needs to eliminate during the night.  He's now seven months old.  Can we cut back to one meal a day?  He weighs 62 pounds and is in excellent shape.

Answer
Hi Jane,

Supposing there is no way either of you can make it home for a lunch break, yes, going down to one meal is fine.  It's not ideal but if that's what works with your schedule then it's what you've got to do.

Meals should be split into equal parts to keep energy levels consistent.  If you're feeding a larger meal and then a small meal right before bed, that's not the best feeding schedule anyway.  :)

62 pounds...wow!  That's big for a 7 month old!  He must have come from large parents!  :)
