Question
QUESTION: bought a boston pup from pet store owner selling for a friend breeder that said she was ethical and if anything was wrong she would help. AKC dog that they said was breedible. Now shes 7 months old, she looks like she's mixed with some other than boston, she has two genetic defects. one the tail bone is fused to her spine, that costed total $250, i paid $1200 for her. Now i find she has cherry eye.  Her legs are longer than normal and she has got no muscle like normal chest instead looks like her legs are attached to her neck, her nose is long, not pugged, and shes now got a underbit and larger jaw looks more like a boxer.  I talked to the so called breeder, she gave me the run around for months while i was spending money on vets and then only to find out she doesn't think that any of this will keep me from breeding her!  I've gotten attached and now i wouldn't feel right to breed this odd looking boston with genitic and birth defects and my point is i wanted to do that to recoup some of my money and keep one of them, since she's papered I thought i could get a reasonable return.  Only planned to breed her once.  What happened to this dog and why did the breeder not want to either let me keep her and give me another or give me back some money or pay for vet bills, just got mad and said bring her back.  I want to keep her cause I'm attached.

ANSWER: Hello, i'd keep her...it would be hard on her as well to give her back I mean shes been with you for months. If she doenst look like the breed standards do NOT breed her, A typical boston looks like this: This is my boston with my jack russell terrier    http://www.freewebs.com/dustycovens/multipledogs.htm

Bostons are not to have long muzzels. I wouldnt breed her the litter could all have gentic problems if she had them and may very well end up with cherry eye and other problems she had. also you might need to c section the ltiter costing 1500-2000 or your dogs life.

QUESTION: this breeder told me to take my dog to her vet, i assumed she was going to pay because of that but then she said no, i suggested him, now she's called him about my dog, not ethical i think, to ask him what he told me.  He told me that he didn't see any reason why i couldn't breed her and that his opinion was that this "birth defect" would cause a problem.  I think he was just sticking up for the breeder.  Now to find out she's telling me that she feels that the birth defect cause no inherint problem with breeding so she will not resolve to what I feel i should have paid for a dog like this.  Should I or could I turn her in to AKC.  See, I cannot breed her, this is why i bought her and is what i told that girl at the pet store when i bought her.  I'm really upset about this, cause now I cannot do what i'd intended and that was to keep a pup for myself and sell the rest.  I thought this would be an enjoyable experience.  I cannot afford to do this again.

Answer
Hello again no you can not turn her into the AKC, You got her from a petstore? its no wonder the breeder didnt offer help with any of her problems and No you should Never breed a dog from a petstore to begin with papered/not papered whatever as these dogs come from bad breeders and puppy millers who see that there is nothing wrong with selling pups to petshops to be shoved into fish tanks under bright lights on wire floors until they are sold for premium prices. Why did you want to breed? to keep a puppy? right? well have this dog spayed you have your "puppy" you can always buy another top quaility breedable female from a good Breeder in the future and have your breeding dog but you will just sell the litter. I see no reason to breed dogs that are not of good quaility and of the breeds standards at all...even to keep a puppy if the litter wouldnt be high quaility there is no point if you wouldnt be doing the breed any good which is the whole point of breeding...bettering the breed. Heres a link to my site on where to get a dog on this page you will also see a link to pictures from a puppy miller:  http://www.freewebs.com/dustycovens/wheretogetadog.htm

This dog has been with you for months she deserves to be loved and cared for by yourself for the rest of her life bostons are very emocinal dogs and will pine for you very much if you "get rid of her" .
