Question
Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply, you're great to do this. Actually she had the kittens outside somewhere, that's what I meant when I said she didn't sleep inside on the one night she gave birth. We have looked under houses, gardens and so on, but no trce. Cannot hear any kittens crying either. Do you think she waould have strayed far from our house to have the kittens. if she did have them outside?

Laura

PS I live in Australia!

Answer
Oh Lord. . . that would really depend on whether she tends to wander or not. You could always try putting a collar on her and tying the end of a piece of very long string to it and just letting her go, then follow the string! That's about as "creative" as I can get with this situation.

Does she seem to be producing milk?  If her teats feel full and prominent, then there probably are live kittens somewhere. At this point, as long as it isn't too cold out, she is probably better able to take care of them then you are. If they are alive, she will let you see them when she is ready. If not, well, there's nothing you can do and at least you don't have to worry about there being dead kittens hidden somewhere in your house.

You should get some food that is kitten formula and feed it to the mother -- if she is nursing, she will need extra calcium and lots of food.

Good luck and let me know if/when you find anything.
