Question
he will not stop meowing. He has been in hiding since i brought him home 4 days ago. I just want him to feel comfortable around our family. He let me pet him a couple times but today he hissed and bit me :( Any suggestions? I have let him stay in a room without bothering him and have been feeding him his favorite food. I'm really sad that he isn't warming up more quickly. I have never had this problem before

Answer
Angelia,

Here is how I think you should approach the situation.  Ignore the kitten, except for feeding, filling the water dish and changing the litter pan.

If the kitten approaches you, go ahead and pet it.  Do not pick the kitten. do not approach the kittens, just make pretend the kitten does not exist.

Once the kitten decides to approach you, pet the kitten, but do not pick it up. Let the kitten think all of its interactions with you are its idea.  Cats do better if things can be approached on their terms, not yours. So, you need to let the kitten believe it is socializing with you because it wants to, not because you want it to!

If, after the kitten has become more sociable towards you, it still does biting/scratching behavior, put the kitten aside and walk away.  Kittens play with their siblings and mama by biting and scratching which is OK since cats and kittens have such tough skin.  Unfortunately, we humans have much softer skin and, so, the kittens need to learn to play more gently with us humans.  So, the best way to discourage this behavior is to stop what ever you are doing with the kitten and walk away.  The kitten will, eventually, get the idea.

Finally, it is a trait of Siamese to meow loudly and often.  That is what they do.  It is perfectly normal for Siamese to be rather vocal.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Best regards... Norm.
