Question

Bean
Hello, I rescued a male orange tabby kitten from a man who had too many kittens to take care of. His mom was a longhair and I'm not too sure about the dad but I'm assuming he was a shorthair.  I've enclosed pictures of the kitten; in your opinion from the picture, do you think he is shorthaired or longhaired? I currently have 3 shorthaired cats apart from this kitten and I don't remember them having as fluffy a coat as he does when they were babies. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jen,

There is a third type which looks to be like Bean. It is a medium coat cat. He will be fluffier than a short hair but won't be a true long hair. I have one like this. Usually this type of cat's coat is very soft. You will have to groom him a bit. Most times they love the brush. His tail will be fluffier and also his chest area. His hair around the legs won't be long. He shouldn't be much more trouble to take care of than a short hair. One thing, if he goes outside, check him through for ticks. The longer hair hides them pretty good and Med. coats have a harder time of getting rid of them. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen
