Question
Hi Lisa,
I have recently discovered fleas on my 3 indoor cats.  I ran to Petsmart to see what products were available to use.  I knew I wasn't going to do flea baths because that is temporary, & does not get to the root of the problem.  My question is, is it really worth going to the vet for frontline, or is it okay to use a flea treatment from a pet store?  I was looking at the products that were most like frontline, and I found one for approx $10 that was 3 months worth. (3 tubes)  What do you think?  Thanks, Dana

Answer
well no, in my opinion, its not worth going to the vet.
all those tubes that you put on the back of their necks are PESTICIDES. i, personally, do NOT use those. i have one cat who has an allergic reaction to it anyway.
i use a product called PROGRAM. it comes in liquid and pill form. yes they take it orally. it is a flea hormone. the hormone goes into the cats blood, the adult fleas bite, drink the blood and become sterile. they lay millions of eggs, which never hatch because there is nothing inside the eggs, the adults die, END OF CYCLE. no more fleas!!
it comes in 6 and 12 packs. i have all indoor cats and i treat my cats during june -sept. 4 months.which really means they are covered till the end of october. i use it in pill form, because for me its just easier to give them pills then to make sure they eat all the food that i have to put the liquid in. if you are interested in it here is the website where i order it from. its a bit expensive, but it really works.

also you should go to walmart or petsmart and buy a flea comb for cats. sit down and comb each cat daily. b4 you sit down with them get a small bowl and run some water in it and put 2 or 3 drops of dish liquid in it and stir to make bubbles. then when you flea comb them, after each stroke check the comb, if you see fleas pick them off and put them in the soapy water. fleas can swim, but not in soapy water, the soap drowns them.
