Question
Hi Barb!

I have a 2-year old male orange-and-white tabby cat.  Yesterday he caught his first bird EVER, outside in my neighbor's backyard. My dad was not pleased with my cat for catching the bird and told me that I needed to train him not to go after birds anymore. I tried explaining to my dad that my cat was just acting like a normal cat, but he still wants me to teach my cat not to go after birds. Is that even POSSIBLE?

Laura

Answer
Hi Laura,

As long as the cat is outdoors, you will never train him not to go after birds.  It's a natural instinct.  To maintain a healthier, risk-free environment, it is better to keep your cat indoors at all times.  Cats can be subject to all kinds of diseases and dangers if outdoors, especially at night!  Please, if you think anything of your cat, keep him inside.  Write again if I can be of further assistance.  I always like to help.  Barb
