URGENT kiten delivery how long should it take!!!

16:18:07

Question
"Around 8:00 am yesterday am my cat began labor. Around 11 her first kitten was born live. around 2:30 her 2nd was born live. I believe she has more in her but labor seems to have stopped. Should I be concerned or will nature take over and they be delivered? Can it take this long for a cat to deliver? How can I check to see if there are more or can I even do that. She is a petite cat. and I afraid I might hurt her if I try to check vaginally."

Answer
Hi, Thanks for your question. The easiest way to tell if a cat is finished delivering is by her behaviour. If she is settled with her kittens and letting them nurse and she is eating she is probably finished and is just fine. If she is restless and pacing and crying then there could be something wrong. After this length of time if she has not delivered another kitten and there is another one in her it is most likely dead. You would need to seek veterinary attention for her. You would not be able to vaginally check her. Do you have special training in midwifery or ?? Otherwise I would seek professional help including xrays etc to determine what if anything is left in her.
