Question
My cat cut his leg exactly three weeks ago and had to go into surgery to get stitches. The cut is on his left hind leg close to the paw.  When the stitches were removed last thursday the top are of the cut had not close properly.  Now there is an area in his leg missing skin where you can see his tendons.  Our vet tells us that it is going to take time and slowly the skin will grow back.  I'm worry because he is taking antibiotics for three weeks now.  Is there something else that we can do? right now his bandages are being changed every three days and we are putting a medicine called collasate that is supposed to help the skin grow.  Any advice on what to do?

Answer
Hi Lucia,

I think you're being very diligent in doing everything you're supposed to be doing.  I know its hard to see him suffer but you just have to be patient.  Keep doing what the vet has instructed, don't worry about the antibiotics, any potential side affects are very small compared to what could happen if you stop them and infection sets in.  So keep doing what you're doing and I think you'll see improvement soon.  Are you changing the bandages yourself or is your vet?  If you do them yourself you could ask the vet if there is an antiseptic solution that you should be cleaning it with at the time or if he would rather you didn't.
