Cat gates?

16:25:37

Question
I have two cats in my care who, until recently, were indoor-outdoor cats. (Their previous owner passed away.) They know and trust me, but I am afraid they will dash outside. I'm getting them micro-chipped, but I also want to put a pet gate across the entryway so that it is less likely they'll be right at the door as we come in or go out (right now we are closing them up in one room, but when I return to work and we're away for 8-9 hours a day, I don't want to do that).

Unfortunately, I need a gate that is constructed so they can't get through, aren't likely to get over, and fits a 60-inch-wide (5 foot) space. Any idea where I could get something like that? The taller gates often seem to have wide-spaced bars and the slenderer cat could just walk right through them, I think. But a 30-inch gate is well within reach of jumping or climbing over....

Answer
Laura,

I am not sure any gate will work since most cats can easily get over anything under 5 feet tall. My wife suggested double french doors, so that the glass will allow the light to get through and blend more in with the decor of the house.

Another option is to have a storm door on the outside of the entry way, if that will work. Most cats cannot dash through two doors at the same time.

Best regards... Norm.
