Why don't cats like water?

Well, this is a popular fallacy. Some cats DO like water. The two Turkish breeds, Turkish Angoras and Turkish Vans, have been known to swim and catch fish. Maine Coons have an affinity for water as well.

Also, even cats that don't show much enthusiasm for actually getting water are usually fascinated by running water from a faucet. Why do you think those cat drinking fountains with pumps to keep the water moving are so popular?

I think the typical feline fury at becoming suddenly wet has a lot more to do with a loss of control/dignity than with an innate allergy to the substance.
