Abyssinian vs Bengal

Question
Hi - I'm considering getting either an Abyssinian or a Bengal and wonder how they are similar and different in terms of temperament and personality.  I like cats that are not shy, but I would also appreciate one who would cuddle up with me on occasion.  Which has more energy?  Will either breed do okay in a household of just me or will they be bored or depressed? I am usually gone for 6 hours at a time, 4 days per week.  Is there another short-haired breed that you recommend instead?

Thanks,
Govinda

Answer
Govinda,

Abyssinians and Bengals are both high energy cats who, as kittens, can both get very bored with being left alone for extended periods of time, although 6 hours 4 days a week is not too bad!  If they get bored, they can get destructive looking for something to do.  They are not prone to cuddling up with people unless they want to.  Everything has to be on their terms.  The only major difference is that some Bengals have an aggressive streak that can become quite daunting!

Another breed you might consider might be the Tonkinese.  These are fairly high energy, but, generally a little more laid back.  If you are after a "wild" look, you might even consider the Ocicat.

Another solution may be to get a second kitten as a companion cat for your Aby or Bengal.

Best regards... Norm.
