Question
My cat started labor today and gave birth to one kitten. The kitten was born alive but with no fur and died about 4 mins after birth. This occured about two hours ago and labor seems to have stopped. Was this kitten born pre-term? is there a chance the others will be born healthy tonight or at a later date?

Answer
Theresa,

There are times when a fetus stops developing sometime during gestation. The mama can begin labor to expel this fetus and the others may be born normally developed at a later time. It makes sense to have a vet take a look and see if they can ultrasound for fetal heartbeats to see if there is anything left inside.

Please let me know what your vet says.

Best regards... Norm.
