CHANGE IN BEHAVIOUR

Adopted stray cat and had her spayed c. 3 months ago. Until about 1 week ago did not mind being brushed.  Now does not like tail being touched.  (Quite vicious).  Stray cat who tried mating with her before she was spayed (probably not neutered) now in(VERY close contact) - any connection?

There is always the possibility that the vet did not get everything when they spayed her.  A hormone level test would tell you that. It is also possible she has had an abreaction to something after being spayed, and she may have an infection. It is also possible she was bitten on or near the tail and has an abscess.

It sounds to me that she needs a visit to your vet to check if there is a medical issue. Often radical changes in behavior have a medical cause.
