sick kitten who is really lethargic

Question
i have a new kitten that was given to me from someone who could no longer keep him. He hasn't had any shots but I am taking him in about a week he is about 15 weeks old and very lively and playful but for the last couple of days he has been extremely lethargic and just wants to collapse into slumber for about 22 hours a day. he used to play and run about but now just sleeps on me or the couch. He isn't whining and he's still eating and driking just tired. I have given him a flea bath and flea treatment a couple of weeks ago, and he doesn't have a large belly so i don't think he has worms and he hasn't been outside but I do have two other grown cats who are inside/outside cats but they have all their shots and vacinations and don't really spend much time with him. The kitten ran outside a week or so ago for about 7 mins bafore i caught him but he was fine til two days ago and since then he just hasn't been himself. he's still loving just really sleepy all the time. Am I just being over concerned? I just don't have tons of money for some vet to prod him a bunch and then tell me he's fine.

Answer
Helen,

There are a number of deadly diseases out there that could have attacked this kitten (not having had his shots).  All of these diseases are airborne.  So, I would get him to a veterinarian immediately to deal with the lethargy.  Once he is over that, he will need, at the very least a good injectable 3-1 vaccine (against panleukopenia, calici, and rhinotracheitis),  3 weeks after he can get his 3-1 booster.  If he is going to be indoors, he does not need an FeLV shot.  You will have to check with your vet to find out the rabies requirements for your jurisdiction.  No matter what, do not let your vet over vaccinate your kitten.  Wait at least 3 weeks between shots!!!!!!!!!!

Kittens who sleep 22 hours a day and are lethargic are NOT fine!

Best regards... Norm.
