cutting my cats claws

Question
I've always heard that it is important to keep your cat's claws trimmed, mostly because they could grow into the pads of their feet.  Recently I was told by a friend that cats actually walk on their claws and that keeping them trimmed can cause your cat to have to walk with an unnatural posture and can be harmful to the bones in their feet.  Is there any truth to this?

Answer
Hi Sammantha,

Neither of those tales are true. Cats claws should be kept trimmed because if left to grow they will catch on fabrics. Outside when cats claw stuff, that will naturally keep the claws trim. An inside cat will catch their claws on furniture, drapes, bedding, other material things. If you keep their claws short you won't have this problem. Good luck.
