Question
about a year ago we introduced 2 new kittens in to our house and to our older cat he took a while to accept the kittens but finally did. recently one of the kittens has dies via and accident involving a dog. we have now got a new kitten but the other kitten we got a year ago just wont accept her. she gets scared of her and hushes and growls. i really need some help as we want them to get along. is there any advice you can give me?

Answer
Charley,

The best thing to do is to ignore the ruckus and leave them work it out on their own.  It will take a while and, meanwhile the worst thing you can do is to interfere.

It is possible, but rarely the case, that they may never get along.  It just may take some more time.  Be patient, do not separate them, do not interfere, and ignore any noise.

In time, if they start playing chase (even if it ends up in a "fight"), this will be a good sign.  Adults are generally fairly tolerant of kittens, , so you have a good chance that all will work out.

One thing you might do is to give the two established cats extra attention and treats so that they will not get jealous of the new kitten and maybe even look on the arrival of the new kitten as a good thing.

Best regards... Norm.
