Everytime I leave the room

Question
Hi my name is Sheryl, and my cat gave birth early this morning to 4 adorable kittens.

My question is is it normal for my cat to meow and come look for me everytime I leave the room?  She will stop meowing once I am in the room with the kittens watching them so that she can go and sit in a corner and lay down (only when the kittens are napping)  I could be anywhere in the house and she will meow until she finds me, no one else just me. (yes I am the one who takes care of her all the time).  I actually had to lay down and take a nap next to the kittens, and at that time she just wandered the house to check things out LOL.  As long as I am in the room she is content, but once I leave the room forget it she starts meowing until I go upstairs with her and the kittens.

One more question is it normal for her not to go to the bathroom after giving birth?  Hopefully you can help answer these for me, and no she has not lost her appitite at all.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have had puppies before, but never kittens so I new at this, any info would be greatly appreciated : )

Answer
Sheryl,

It sounds somewhat as though you are a major source of security for this mama cat. Apparently she views you as a built in babysitter! I would have kitty to the vet just to make sure that she hasn't got another baby stuck in the birth canal. When you take her to the vet make sure that you bring all of her babies along. Mention to your vet that your kitty has not used the washroom since having the babies. Has she been eating and drinking normally (actually more than normal, because she now has extra mouths to feed). Do the kittens seem contented? Do you find that the kittens are restless and crying a lot (when they aren't sleeping)? These are all things that the vet will want to know. If the kittens seem restless and mom seems different that combined with the fact that mom hasn't used the bathroom is an urgent matter for the vet. I would have mom in to see the vet fairly soon, simply because you mention that she hasn't been going to the box normally. I hope that this helps. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
