Heavily Pregnant Stray Cat!!

Question
hi...

last summer i moved to Spain and the house i moved into had a stray cat living nearby. She was incredibly skinny and terrified of people...but slowly she started getting used to me and now she is tame and in great condition.

She lives in my garden because my dad wont let her in the house (i doubt she would come in if she were allowed), but i made her a box to sleep in and she seemed fine. Recently iv been saving alot of money to have her neutered but unluckily she now seems to be pregnant! Her stomach has grown huge, her teats are very pronounced, i even saw her mating with next doors tomcat, so all the signs point to her being pregnant.

I am very worried because there arent any rescue centres where i live and i cant bring her in the house - Although over here in spain the weather is very mild, the temperature in the day is around 15-20 degrees C and it hardly ever rains.

Ive made her a big shallow bed out of a cardboard box, put lots of blankets in the bottom and placed it where she usually sleeps. Ive been feeding her more, but im really panicking! What else can i do? And also what do i do when the kittens arrive? Also i dont think i will be able to get her to the vets because she hates being picked up and i think she would freak out if i tried to put her in a cat carrier and take her to the vets. I also dont know if she will allow me to help with the labour as she can be quite shy.

(by the way, iv owned cats before and have worked in a cattery so i am quite experienced at handling them)

Please reply asap!! as she is huuuuge and i think it might be soon...

thankyou so much

Annie

Answer
Annie,

This is a feral cat and she will do what she will do, most likely on her own!  There is not much you can do except be there to help in case of a problem, if she will let you.

Once the kittens arrive, you will have to let mama do all the work.  She will know best.

Please let me know what happens.

Best regards... Norm.
