Can having kittens

Question
The lady across the road from me has a cat that is practically living in my house. I have discovered the cat is pregnant and I wasn't aware she hadn't been done. I am more that willing to get the cat dressed after this litter as I have since spoke with the neighbour who agrees it's best for the cat if I keep her. However, accommodating kittens is impossible as I am having a vast amount of work done in my home. My neighbour has agreed that when the kittens are born(which were sure will be in my home)then she will look after the cat and kittens for the duration. My question is, will it be okay to move the cat and kittens?

Answer
Jan,

Yes, it will be OK to move the cat and the kittens.  However, I would make sure whatever you have used for a birthing box and the bedding for the birth of the kittens should go with mama and the kittens as they both depend on smell to know whose kittens they are and whose mama it is.  Familiar stuff will help mama adapt to the new arrangement much better.

On a further note, the kittens may be weaned at 4 weeks, but should not be placed in new homes until they are at least 12 weeks old!!!!!

I am assuming mama will be spayed after she is finished weaning the kittens!

Best regards... Norm.
