cat love bites

Question
Hello I have a very sweet, affectionate cat. She is jet black with yellow-green eyes and a luxurious coat like a mink stole. She loves to spend time with me and pops in my lap and stays by my side from the minute I walk in the door. There is one problem. While I'm petting her (and of course she's purring, purring purring) she will lift her head up and gently bite against my finger. I know that to the cat it's just a sign of affection, but for me it's annoying and sometimes painful. How can I get her to stop those little "love bites"?

Answer
Hi James!

She sounds so adorable!!  I can tell she loves you very much, but I know that can be annoying.  Have you tried tapping her on the nose firmly and saying NO!  I think that would eventually work.

If you have to, buy some Bitter Apple and put some of it on your finger. You can get it at most pet shops or pet supply warehouse.   It is a very bitter tasting substance that she will not like, but the problem is, it may keep her from sitting on your lap!  So, I wouldn't use it unless she just won't stop with the verbal command.

Good luck and God Bless,
Becky
