Damage to cats radial nerve in leg

Question
I rescued a 3 mos. old kitten who caught his leg overnight in the metal crate. He doesn't have feeling  in two toes of the foot, and up the leg on one side.  He was walking with his foot curled up under. Vets have said just amputate, although it may "come back with time."  I can foster him until it heals, but what are the odds of him being able to walk on it properly? (he has improved in the 7 days I've had him) And any treatments I might try to get the nerve back besides massage?  His leg is now bandaged up the shoulder, and sometimes he drags it, sometimes he walks on it. Thanks!

Answer
This is outside my expertise...but you may want to read about reiki and healing touch.  Is he in pain? If your cat's leg ends up having to be amputated, rest assured that he will adapt
I just saw a show on Animal Planet about a cat that didn't
have his two back legs and it showed how good he got around
and was happy because he was given lots of love
