Raising Orphan Kittens

Question
Hi Teresa,
We are recently raising three orphan kittens and we are wondering if powder cow milk is harmful for the kittens since we couldn't find any goat milk (as advised) in any of the nearby stores for the meantime. We still haven't got the chance to purchase KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer). In addition, one of the kittens eyes keep closing and it isn't feeding as well and isn't as strong as the other two, will it survive? Another problem is when the kittens are not asleep they keep crying. Hope there are solutions to our problems. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Nadine and Natalie, the kittens are really not going to do well on powdered cows milk. Is it possible to get some canned evaporated milk? Even that would be better ! Cows milk is fine for one meal if you were stuck but it is going to cause problems if you continue to feed it to them. How old are the kittens? Could you put them onto some canned food? If you look online you will find recipes for kitten milk replaces using the canned milk. They can do quite well if you use a recipe. Otherwise they are not going to thrive. If would need to know how old the kittens are before I could answer your other questions. Thanks, Teresa
