Question
i have a female cat that i am wanting to breed and wanted to know how you think it would go if i brought the male cat to my female cat?  i tried once taking her to a male but she was to scared to do anything she just hid the whole time.  she is an inside only cat so is only comfortable in the house.  so would it be okay to bring a male cat to my house or would it be a horrible messy idea?

Answer
Angela,

This can work, if the female is especially frightened in a new abode.  If you do bring the male in, you will need to have him isolated in one area which will be extemely easy to clean in case he decides to spray to mark this territory.

Most males will take to breeding in a new place, but some just will not, so, until you try it, you will not know.

What we have done in the past is to put the male and female in the same room with the male in a large cage (with food, water, and litter pan), so they can get "acquainted" with each other.  As soon as she is in heavy season, we release the male from the cage and let them alone to do the deed. If the male will not perform with you in the room, a baby monitor will let you listen and be ablt to tell if there is any breeding activity.

Best regards... Norm
