Himalayan Kitten

Question
QUESTION: I am having a problem keeping my kitten clean when she pee's or messes, due to her long hair. What can I do to solve this problem. I bathe her bottom and it seems like every time I do, before she is dry, she will go to the litter box. Should I cut her hair at the back. She is only a pet and nothing more. I have had her spayed. She is 6 months old and solid white except for the reddish tint on her face and tail and paws. Will appreciate your reply. Phyllis Williams

ANSWER: Phyllis,

Is your litter pan large enough for her.  Normally, they do not mess themselves when they pee.  What kind of litter are you using?

Does she have diarrhea?  Her stools ought to be hard cylinders.  It may be she has a small scale tummy problem which is why she is messy when she poops.

Most Himalayans out grow this sort of thing.

For your own self, I would clip her back there, for the time being, until she gets better at it.  If you are not sure how to clip her, take her to one of your local grooming parlors and have them show you how to do it.

Best regards... Norm.

QUESTION: Her pan is a 12x20. Her stools are hard cylinders. I use Fresh Step Odor Control. Just this morning I had to clean her because she had stool stuck to her butt. Is it that she is in too big of a rush to get out or not spreading her legs far enough due to the litter box size? Hope this helps.

Answer
Phyllis,

12" X 20" is a pretty good size.

You just have to face it that kittens are messy.  She should outgrow this messiness in time.  However, clipping around her back end would certainly help the matter.

I am sorry I cannot do more for you on this one.

Bets regards... Norm.
