15 year old himalayan cat

Question
My 15 year old cat Nestle has always had problems with hairball and throwing up liquid. We have just had new carpet installed and my husband has banished him to the basement. He also has to eat Hills c/d for urinary tract. He will not eat wet food. Is there anything that I can do to stop the throwing up? We have him groomed so the long hair is cut but he is still throwing up liquid
Thanks Amanda

Answer
Amanda,

At age 15. your Himalayan is geriatric.  Thus, his tolerance for food is not what it used to be.  I have found that many cats who get older can tolerate semi-soft foods (between dry and wet).  You can consult with your vet and they may be able to recommend a prescription semi-soft food for the urinary tract.

You can also give your cat distilled water instead of tap or bottled water as this is easier on the urinary tract, as well.

I have never had much luck with medicines that were supposed to stop a cat from throwing up.

Best regards... Norm.
