Question
Debbie,
I might be getting a new kitten and i was on the internet and it said both male and female cats have to get neutered and i was wondering if there was a difference in price between a male or female kitten getting neutered?

Answer
Hi Tina and congratulations on maybe getting a new cat to love!

Yes, the cost to spay a female is more than a male and females will have a longer recovery time.  It is because on a female they have to do major surgery and then they must stay inside and not jump up and down on things until their little stitches heal - about 1 week versus a boy kitty that is in and out of the vet quickly and returns to normal faster because they don't have to cut them open to fix them.

Yes, you should always fix any cat you get!  With our country being almost over-run with unwanted kitties, no-one should get a cat without having it fixed!  But you can call your local rescue groups and I'm sure they will have cats that have already been fixed (saving YOU some time and $$$)!  You can also look online at PetFinder.com which is host to many great rescue groups.  You can specify how young of a cat you are looking for and by area, so this is also a great way to find your new friend : -)

Good luck with your choice and thanks for caring enough to ask here!
