Main Coon Mix

I recently adopted a 4 yr old tortoiseshell Main Coon Mix.  She likes to talk to me, do whatever I am doing, and will follow me from room to room.  She tolerates being held a minute at most. Is there any chance she will ever become, to me, a "sometimes lap cat".  What can I do to encourage her?

I have found the best way to encourage a cat to come to you is to ignore it. Make pretend she does not exist.  Do not approach her, do not pick her up. Let her come to you and then, and only then pet her.  Let her think being affectionate is her idea.  It is amazing how cats can become affectionate and demanding of attention when they think you are not paying them enough heed!
