Question
I have a 10 week old bluepoint siamese female. Last night I got home from work and as usual Iwas on my bed taking my shoes off. My cat wanted me too hurry up and rub her,I guess I didnt rub her quick enough so she squatted beside me and urinated on my bed. My question to you is why did she do that? Was it out of spite or what did I do wrong?

Answer
Hi, Olivia.  I don't think it was out of spite.  I do think she's trying to tell you something.  The first thing you should do is get her to a vet.  Peeing outside the box may be caused by urinary tract disease, or illness somewhere else in the body.

If she checks out healthy, I'd reevaluate your litter box situation.  She's still a little baby right now, and you should keep a litter box in as many rooms in the house as possible.  Her litter bladder can't hold much urine, and sometimes she may not realize she has to go until she can't make it to the litter box.  Keeping one handy in all areas may help.

This kitty doesn't happen to be declawed, does she?  Inappropriate elimination is the most common complaint about cats who are declawed, next to aggression.  Declawing may cause pain on the feet starting immediately after the surgery, or years down the road.  Switching from regular litter to shredded newspaper or a ground cedar litter may help, as these are softer on her feet.

Behavioral problems due to anxiety disorders do include urinating outside the box.  However, your kitten is extremely young to be having any anxiety issues.

To prevent repeat accidents, you'll need to use an enzymatic cleaner (a cleaner that uses natural enzymes and bacteria to decompose the stain). Cat urine is full of fat, which is very sticky. This is why cat urine stains are so hard to remove. Enzymes break down fat molecules to allow for complete removal of the stain. The two enzymatic cleaners I recommend are Nature's Miracle, available at pet stores, and Greased Lightning Orange Blast, available at grocery stores. Unless you remove the stains completely, the cat will still be able to smell them, even if you can't. You may also want to use a fluorescent black light to detect unseen urine stains. Any urine stains will glow yellow-green.
