vomiting in a 5 mth old kitten

Question
The vomit is a pea green, doesn't seem to have any hair in it. It appears to me like diahrea but I did see her vomit the first time and the second one looks the same. She is not as playful as her normal self but still playing. She appears to be more tired than normal. She is still eating a drinking, maybe not as much. No it didn't happen right after she ate. Her brother is fine, nothing wrong with him. Are there any other signs I should be looking for? Should there be any concern for mine and my children's health? Thank you so much for your assistance.

-----Question-----
I have 2 kittens, 1 male and 1 female. I received the kittens from a friend about 3 months ago. They stay indoors except when I go out on the balcony to smoke, they come with me. They are very active and playful until yesterday, my female starting vomiting on the floor in the living room. I watched her the rest of the night until we went to bed and she seemed fine. I got up this morning, and let them out of their room, they sleep in our main bathroom, and she had vomited again on the bathroom floor. I also have 2 young children in the house with me and am concerned not only for the health of my kitten but very much my kids health. What could this be, I am on a fixed income and if their is something I could do from home for them. I really do appreciate your assistance.

Hi Annette,
I will try to help you as best as I can. First off, you need to describe in detail what the vomit looks like. Is it just phlegm, or is there food in it, or hair? Do you see strands of stuff that looks like spaghetti? What color is the vomit? And does she vomit after eating?
The more info I have the better I can help you. Is your kitten lethargic or is its normal, playful self? Is she eating and drinking water normally? What about its brother? Any problems with him? Let me what you can. If she gets worse take her to a vet immediately.

Ciao, Karen

Answer
Hi Annette,
Make sure your kitty didn't get into anything. Look at your houseplants for nibble marks. If she hasn't vomited again just give her water right now. Or if you have it , pedilyte or gatorade diluted with water. Wait at least 24 hours to give her food. Then try her with something light like baby food,(chicken stage 1), mixed with baby cereal or rice. If she doesn't vomit again she can start on her regular food.

If she still vomits and is lethargic get her to a vet. Your family shouldn't have anything to worry about catching something from her. Cats do vomit from time to time. Most times it's nothing more than a hairball.
Let me know what happens.
