Question
I recently got a 9 year old Turkish Angora from the Humane Society. Although she is a beautiful cat, she had been there for 7 months, probably because she has one      eye. She can see quite well up close with the other eye, but I wonder how much distance vision she has, because she isn't interested in looking out windows, which our other two cats spend most of their waking hours doing. My question is this: do you think there would be a physical reason why she rarely looks me in the eye? She has met my eye once or twice in the month we've had her, which makes me think she could if she wanted to, but has some psychological reason not to. Usually she will only look up as high as my waist, and even when I bend down, she still won't meet my eye. This really hinders me understanding her, as my other cats communicate so much to me by their eyes. Do you have any insights or suggestions?

Answer
Cats can see eye contact as a threat, though if she's friendly with you, this wouldn't seem to be an issue.  I'm wondering if it's possible she only sees blurs or shadows with her remaining eye and is able to detect movement and large objects, but not to able to see anything in great detail.  Just a guess.  I would have to recommend a trip to the vet on this one if you're very concerned.  Might be recommended to see an ophthalmologist.
