persian-mix eye drainage

Question
I have an 18 month old Persian mix with a very pushed-in face. She needs to have her eyes(and nose) cleaned of "tears" several times daily. My concern is that the discharge is a thick brown color. I'm worried that this is indicative of old blood. Otherwise, she's happy, affectionate, eats well, drinks well, no litter box problems.
Thanks for any advice you can help with.

Answer
Janet,

Unlike humans, cats' eyes do discharge more of a dark brownish color. This is perfectly natural and has nothing to do with blood.  As long as you keep up with the eye drainage and are gentle, she should have no problems with her eyes.

Best regards... Norm.
