a week ago my cat gave birth to a still born and the second one died 3 days later i have 2 healthy females but yesterday when i came down in the am my cat has taking the kittens out of the whelping box and placed the kittens behind the couch and wont come out if i get a kitten and bring her out she takes her by the neck and puts her back behind the couch. her whelping box was very clean and i thought it made her feel safe, i whelping know why she did this. please help  karen

For some reason or other, mama does not feel safe in the whelping box where it is, presently.  There just may be too much traffic around it to suit her. You may be able to put her and the whelping box in a room with a closed door which may just suit her to a "T".

Other options are to put some bedding behind the couch where she and the kittens are, or, maybe, even the whelping box?  Once the kittens are about 3-4 weeks of age, they will begin to wander, so I think having mama and the kittens confined to a single room to restrict the kittens wanderings later, might be a good idea.
