Question
Hi Jessica!
I read a letter on here from someone else concerned that their cat dying had to do with cat grass.  I grew cat grass and fed some to my 7 month old cat.  The first three days I let her nibble a little and she was fine.  The following day she ate a little more then I took it away.  Later on in the afternoon she vomited twice about an hour apart.  It was a yellow foamy liquid, the first time with grass in it.  This about about 40 hrs ago and throughout today I found little pukey puddles all over the house- about 8.  She has not eaten in over 24 hrs and is meowing in pain when I touch her or if she even goes near food.  She has become lethargic and is not playing at all.  I am taking her to the vet tomorrow but Id like your opinion.  She has never had eating problems before and is usually extremely active and hungry! Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Kayla.  Overeating cat grass can certainly cause some stomach upset and vomiting.  It is possible that this episode is all related to enjoying too much cat grass, as any new ingredient to the diet can wreak havoc on a cat's digestive system.  Also, the edges of the blades of grass can be sharp and cause stomach irritation which may last for a while.  I would be more inclined to think that she probably is suffering from some other stomach ailment in addition, but your vet will let you know for sure.

I have not ever heard of a case where cat grass has killed a cat, but as with all treats, your cat's consumption of cat grass should be monitored, so I'm glad you noticed she ate too much and took it away.  I would limit it to a few bites of grass a day, just so she gets something to nibble on.

Good luck at the vet's!

Jessica
