Question
hello! at my dads house they have 2 cats, 1 cat is a male, other female, well i have a question, when i went over the female cat, licked me than hissed and ran away when the male cat came near me, then the male cat peed on me and mounted my leg, and the female growled at the male and peed on my leg too, I'm not sure what they are doing but i don't want it to become dangerous for them so what are they doing and what can i do? also there is another cat who whenever i come over licks me and rolls on his back showing me his tummy? what is he doing? thanks!!!!!

Answer
Taylor,

Are these cats neutered and spayed?

It sounds to me as if the male cat is still whole.  If the male cat is not neutered, neutering would probably stop the aggressive behavior.  Similarly, if the female is not spayed, that would help her behavior.

A whole cat marks its territory by peeing on things.  So, he may be marking you too.  The female smells that and pees over his pee to claim the territory for her own (a behavior indicative of being in season).  Both of these behaviors are normal to whole cats but not cats who have been neutered or spayed.

In case they have been neutered and/or spayed, this behavior is not normal.  It could be one or the other has a physical problem (like a urinary tract infection, which would have to be looked at by the vet).

If the problem is not physical, it could be behavioral.  In that case, I have included a link with some excellent articles on inappropriate bathroom habits in cats and what to do about them.

I would make sure your clothes had had no contact with other cats before you went to your dad's house.  It is also possible the male is smelling other cats on your clothes.  Also, if they are peeing on your clothes, you may need to put an enzyme based cleaner specific for pet odors and pet stains (available from most pet supermarkets or farm stores) on the places where they are peeing.

I hope this is helpful.
