Question
My 6 year old male cat has always been good at drinking water, but lately it seems that he is drinking a lot and consequently urinating a lot.  Could this be a problem?  He otherwise seem really well.

Answer
Hi Lisa,

This can be great cause for concern.  PLEASE take your cat to your vet *immediately*.  Frequent urination is a symptom of a bladder infection, Diabetes, cancer, Cushing's disease, or a urinary tract infection that can developed into a blockage and become fatal in a matter of days.  Please take it from me, do NOT wait--my spouse's cat had the same symptoms and he waited 3 days to take him in and by the time we got him there, he had a urinary plug which required an expensive procedure and his kidneys were starting to shut down.  Not that I'm saying it's definitely this, but it is more likely it's a urinary tract infection.  Point is, he needs to be seen by a vet today, even if you have to go in as a walk-in.  Best of luck; let me know how it goes!
