Hi Steve,
No, newborn kittens aren't born with fleas but they can get them right away from the mom. Because they are newborns you really can't use any flea products on them until they are about 8 weeks old. But there are a couple of things you can do.First off, treat the mom. You can use frontline top spot safely on her. It's ok for nursing moms. Next, on the kitten the easiest way to remove the fleas is to use a flea comb. You can also give the kitten a bath using water and dawn liquid dish detergent. Make sure the kitten doesn't get cold and doesn't swallow any water. Be careful and keep the water away from the face. Dry it off right away and comb it out. The third thing to do is to kill any fleas off in the home. One of the easiest ways is to place a flea collar in your vacuum bag. When you vacuum it will suck up fleas and eggs and kill them. Remember, do not use any flea products on the kittens until they are 8 weeks old. Good luck and let me know what happens.
