Abyssinian Eye Color

14:52:33

Question
We just got our second Abyssinian, a fawn neutered male. He is 5 months old and I just noticed his eyes are an interesting color.  Around the pupil they are a bright green and on the outside edge they are the gold/amber color of our red Aby.  Could his eyes be changing to green or is this what the breed standard calls hazel?  Our two year old spayed female championed as a kitten, but we do not show her and we will not be showing the fawn. I'm just curious.

Answer
Suzanne,

Most Abyssinian breed standards in the United States call for eye color to be gold, green, or hazel. Virtually anything in the copper, gold, amber, green, or gold/green range is perfectly acceptable. Often with eyes, the size of the pupil may dictate some of the eye color at the time.

Best regards... Norm.
