QuestionThis stray came to us last November and got pregnant a few weeks later. As best I can tell, she is due anytime next week. Last Sunday, I noticed a decrease in the amount of food she was eating and no urine for almost 24 hrs. My first thought was a UTI; I made a vet appt, but by the time I got to the vet, I had done some research and the cat had no signs of a UTI. Vet checked her over, said she was fine; told me to measure 1/4 c kitten chow at a time and add 1/4 can of wet food, 2x daily. Kitty was taking 12 hrs to eat 1/4 c dry food! But she ate the wet food right away! Second day on the wet food, I gave her Salmom; next BM was on the mushy side and I could see and smell the Salmon. I figured it must be too rick for her, so I backed off the wet food completely and started again, today with just chicken, which she ate completely. But she is still working on the 1/4 c dry food I gave her at 8pm last night; it's been 29 hrs!
This morning at 5, she spit up a hair ball. I am thinking this is perhaps why her appetite went down last Sunday.
I read something online about putting vasoline on their leg and they would like it off; supposed to help with lubrication. Ever heard of this?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Susan
AnswerHi Susan,
I think your cat just loves the wet food better and that is why she is not eating the dry as much. Most cats would choose wet over dry.
I have not heard of or ever used Vaseline for hairballs, however, I use butter. I put in on the paws of my cats, and they will lick it off. They will lick it from a plate too. It will help your cat get rid of those nasty hairballs.
Good luck with your new kitties!
God Bless,
Becky
