cat misscarriage

Question
We rescued a feral cat from a neighbors attic yesterday. She was trapped and had not eaten for at least 3 days and is terribly thin. She looks to be between 6 and 8 months old, but is pretty small. I suspect she has been homeless for more than the 3 days she was trapped.
Yesterday she was eating, drinking, and pooping well and is very affectionate. Last night she started to bleed from her vagina. This morning she expelled a sack or tube about 2.5" long and 1" wide. She continues to bleed and also has a clearer discharge. I think she is having a miscarriage. How can I be certain she has discharged everything and will not get an infection? She is purring and appears content, but loses drops of blood when she walks around or is lifted.

Answer
Kimberly,

She needs to see a vet to make sure all is OK. The vet can give her a shot to make sure the uterus has expelled everything.  While you are there, you can talk tot he vet about spaying the female. Hemorrhaging  is normal for what just happened to her and usually lasts about 3-5 days. The problem us that anything left behind can fester and become infected causing major problems or even death.

Best regards... Norm.
