C/D cat food

Question
I've been reading the posts concerning the C/D cat food. We have four cats in our home and only one of them has the urinary crystals. He almost died and would have if we hadn't gotten him to the vet as soon as we did. He was practically screaming when we touched his stomach. They had to put him under and drain his bladder as it was about to burst. Over $200 later, he was was sent home with the Hills C/D dry food to eat for the rest of his life. I don't know if you've ever tried to feed one cat one thing and another three cats something else, but in my experience, it's impossible. They want what they can't have. So after the prescribed time on the first food, and a couple of months on the long-time C/D, I decided to try another name brand cat food with low ash. Within a month, he was screaming again. So back to the vet, same thing, and over $200 later, I have had FOUR cats on the same thing for the past two years. I buy the 20-pound bags because of four cats. He's never had a problem since and they all seem to be super healthy. I do split one can of wet food among them in the evening for a treat. They drink lots of water. The problem is that this 20-pound bag of food has gone from $40 to $60 and I was just wondering if there was an alternative. I do not want to take a chance of poor little Bacca getting sick again. I just kind of justified the expense as it's saving us on the large vet bills over time we have to take him in. Should we feed them all wet food only? All of our cats seem to be perfectly healthy and happy with this food. We've ALWAYS given them the same water we drink which is reverse osmosis filtered.

Thanks,
Wanda

Answer
Hi - You are doing a great job with your cats!  I sure do understand the situation of feeding all 4 cat kids.
WET canned food is better for the cats.  Yes, I want to see you offer some dry, too.  Glad to see they are enjoying the reverse osmosis water system.. ( I like mine, too)

WE have found that cats eating wet / moist food, seem to have Less kidney problems and less chance of kidney failure.

Alternatives?  Only with cooking -  I have some recipes I can send you but You may just want to continue with the Hills and just do more WET and less Dry.

BEST wishes to you all!
