raw food and cats dental problem

Question
Hi: I saw that your site recommended a raw food diet for cats to help prevent tarter buildup.  I have had my cat on a raw diet for many years and she has had a terrible time with buildup. Just a couple months after her cleaning her teeth begin to yellow again.  I am wondering if the ground turkey I make the food with is too finely ground. Would it be better to use a more chunky, maybe just chopped chicken or turkey? There is also liver in the formula. I buy a mix that contains extra vitamins and minerals. There is not any grain included in the recipe.

One of your readers mentioned that they don't like the idea of putting the cat under anesthesia so often. I understand, because the last time my cat had her teeth cleaned she lost her voice.  After about 5 days it came back, but the sweet melodic kitten voice she had was gone, and now she sounds more like a blue jay. The vet said she had no problem putting the breathing tube down my cat's throat before the cleaning--no resistance in the throat.  Also, my cat had had her teeth cleaned several times before with no problem.  A friend of mine, who is a singer and who apparently knows about singers' issues, said that the vocal cords can be paralyzed by anesthesia.

So, I am very hesitant to have my cat "put under" again, though she definitely needs cleaning again after less than 6 months. I don't want her voice to be gone altogether.

I read on your site that the cat should be given chewing bones after the cleaning is done, but I would like any ideas or tips on preventing damage to the vocal cords during cleaning? Also, I'd like  any other tips on food or chewing snacks that will help keep the teeth clean?

Thank you so very much.
