Question
Hello Marie-I need some help with formulating a new diet for our cats. First, let me explain our situation. We had so many stray cats in our neighborhood that we decided to do something about it. It was very upsetting to me to see all these poor souls in all kinds of weather, multiplying. So gradually I made friends with the main components of their breeding circle and got them all spayed and neutered. I did end up with a few batches of kittens in the meanwhile. Right now I have a rental house that I have devoted just to the cats and we currently have 20 resident cats there, pretty much mostly all related. They are all friendly, socialized, and healthy. Here is my problem-I know a raw or quality canned diet is probably the best for them, but the way we work, it is just not feasible. I realize that dry food may not be the best thing but I need to let them feed free choice because of our schedules. We usually leave dry food out in various rooms of the house with plenty of fresh water-every little group has their favorite areas-and then when we go over to clean the litter every day we feed cans to everyone. We usually divide up about 10 cans among them all. I need some advice for a good quality dry food. I would rather spend more and have them feel full eating less and producing less stool-(that's a huge problem!!). These cats are all in excellent health and really no one has any skin or digestive issues. They range in age from 3 months to 14 years old. Right now they are eating Friskies or Meow Mix indoor blend. ( I know they are the junk food of cat food-that's why I am here) Can you please offer me some suggestions keeping in mind the convenience of it? I know some would say that I should have just had them fixed and released them back outside, but I honestly got to know all these cats and kittens and could not stand to see them hit on the street or chewed up in a motor trying to keep warm. Plus there are people in our neighborhood who hate cats and treat them as rodents-in other words they poison. So I did what I thought was best for their safety. They all seem very happy and content. Thanks in advance for your time. Maria

YOU can still do some canned food 2 x per week as a treat.
Try to get a better brand if possible of canned..
If you can't , that is ok...the Dry should be the high quality product.
